Metaphor | Adarshana Sitoula

 Metaphor

‘What do you identify as?’ she asked.

A lady from the US.

Which caught me off guard.

I’ve never been asked such query for the fact.

What was designated retort? I wondered,

In the air of silence I stood.

Why didn’t I answer when I could?

Abruptly the poetophile inside me shrewd.

‘As a metaphor’ I answered.

With a confusing facial tone she stares,

A simple question but a debate it has gathered.

‘Could you elaborate’ she replies.

‘ A metaphor, beautiful on its own,

But the meaning is always grown.

A metaphor, answers to everything,

But understood by non -king.

A metaphor, implies,

But is always despised.

A metaphor, has a story,

But a story that varies.

A metaphor, has an existence,

But not of its own.

A metaphor, understood by everyone,

But not really understood by ANYONE.’

I replied.
